The game will support cross-play across both console generations but a little more confusing is how Activision is handling the way you can upgrade from the PS4 to the PS5 version of the game. The Standard Edition is probably the smartest version to buy if you’re not sure if or when you’ll be getting a PlayStation 5.The complex process to upgrade Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War from PS4 to PS5.Ĭall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will release on November 13 and will be available on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Basically, you’ll be paying a total of $69.99, which reflects the cost most publishers will be charging for AAA games on next-gen consoles. You can upgrade that to the PS5 version by paying an additional $10. The Standard Edition (physical or digital) will cost $59.99 on PlayStation 4. The PS4 physical game disc will need to remain in the disc drive every time you play it on PS5. That means if you buy the physical PS4 version of the game, you’ll need to own the PlayStation 5 with the disc drive ($499.99) and not the Digital model ($399.99). The phsyical PlayStation 4 version of Black Ops Cold War will have an option to upgrade to PlayStation 5 through the PlayStation Store however, you must have the PS4 disc inserted into the PS4 to access the digitally upgraded PS5 version of the game. If you purchase the game digitally on PS4, you’ll be able to download it from your account’s digital library on PS5.
